The short version

Spine & Seat is reader-funded. When you click a product link on this site and buy something, we may earn a commission from the retailer. It costs you nothing extra, and it does not change which products we recommend or the order we rank them in.

Amazon Associates

Spine & Seat is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. We earn from qualifying purchases.

Our Amazon tracking identifier is tfb-spineseat-20. It is appended to Amazon links on this site so Amazon can attribute a purchase to us. It carries no information about you.

How the links work

Product links on this site route through our own /go redirect before reaching the retailer. That is so we can change a destination in one place when a product is discontinued, rather than editing dozens of pages, and so we can see which links get clicked. Every one of those links carries rel="sponsored nofollow noopener", which is how search engines are told the link is commercial.

The /go paths are excluded from our sitemap and disallowed in robots.txt. They are plumbing, not content.

Which links earn us something, and which do not

We earn nothing from

  • Herman Miller - Reference link. We are not in Herman Miller's affiliate program and earn nothing here.
  • Steelcase - Reference link. We are not in Steelcase's affiliate program and earn nothing here.
  • Branch Furniture - Brand-direct link. We are not currently in Branch's program, so this link is untracked.
  • Sihoo - Brand-direct link. Untracked — we are not currently in Sihoo's program.
  • Autonomous - Brand-direct link. Untracked — we are not currently in Autonomous's program.
  • VIVO - Brand-direct link. Untracked — we are not currently in VIVO's program.
  • Flokk - Reference link. We earn nothing here.

Links to manufacturers' specification pages, standards bodies, government workplace guidance and medical references are plain reference links. We earn nothing from any of them and we never will.

Why commission does not change our ranking

Every affiliate site writes that sentence. Rather than ask you to take it on trust, here is the evidence you can check on the site itself:

  • The coccyx pain page leads with a cushion costing a fraction of any chair on it, and says outright that it is the thing to buy first.
  • The relieving back pain page spends most of its length telling you to change things that cost nothing.
  • Several pages recommend a refurbished chair, which earns us nothing at all, over a new one that would.
  • The expensive chairs page argues that most readers should spend less than they were planning to.
  • Multiple pages tell you the highest-value purchase is a monitor riser and a separate keyboard, neither of which we sell or link to commercially.

The ordering of picks is decided by published fit specifications and the reasoning is shown on each page. Our methodology is set out in full at how we pick.

Prices

We do not publish prices. There is no live price feed on this site, and a figure we typed in weeks ago is more likely to be wrong than right - so every product button opens the current price on the retailer's own page. Prices change, and the one you see when you arrive is the one that applies.

If that changes, this page changes with it, and any price shown will carry the date it was retrieved.

What we are not

  • Not sponsored. No manufacturer pays for placement on this site, and none has seen a page before publication.
  • Not sent free products. We do not accept review units, because we do not review by testing and a free chair would create an obligation we could not offset.
  • Not a retailer. We do not sell anything, hold stock, process orders or handle returns. Any problem with a purchase is between you and the retailer.
